How to beat the heat while having fun in Walt Disney World in the Florida weather in June

How To Survive Walt Disney World in June

I recently went on Vacation with my family to Walt Disney World during the brutal month of June. For months my mom planned the trip to a T as I kept questioning why we were going in June to begin with. The summer months are the only months that mine and my sister's school breaks overlap. My advice to anyone planning a trip to Disney World or Florida in general is do not go in June, but it is understandable that this is reasonable time to go. While I was there for the week, two days were 111 degrees. It was at times hard to breath while outside. As hot as it was, I love Disney and it was a lot of fun. We made the best of the heat and we survived the Florida heat in Disney by doing these six things:

1.) Fast Passes: We had a fast pass for every ride we went on while visiting the parks. By using the fast passes, the waiting for every ride was very minimum. As a plus, all the rides that were inside a building were air conditioned.

2.) Invest in a personal fan mister: My sister purchased a Disney mister fan the moment we walked into the Magic Kingdom Park. She thankfully shared it with the rest of us and it did help us keep cooler. Filling it with ice water made it feel even better and made the water stay cooler longer.

3.) Complementary Ice/Water- Stay Hydrated: All food stands and restaurants will happily give you a cup of complementary ice and/or water to refill your water bottles. I must have refilled my water bottle with ice about ten times a day.

4.) Pool/Water Parks: We went to the resort pool at least once a day during our time in Disney. We would stay at the parks until 1pm and go back to the resort and go swimming (during the hottest part of the day) until our dinner reservation. Thankfully we went to Blizzard Beach on one the hottest days while we were down there, however, once you got off a ride or out the wave pool you would immediately dry off and start sweating again.

5.) Walk through stores to get from point A to point B: The stores in the parks such as Magic Kingdom that line Main Street USA, are connected. It is a lot cooler by walking through Mickey's Emporium all the way to the ice cream place to get to the castle than walking on the hot pavement in the sun.

6.) Save Animal Kingdom for the hottest day of your Trip: Animal Kingdom is still my favorite Disney park, and I think the reason for that is that it is the most shaded. The walkways of the park are lined with bamboo and many types of trees and it will defiantly keep you cooler.

Of course I'll visit Disney again but next time it will be during the winter months. I talked to one cast member in Disney Springs that said that it is anyway from 60-70 degrees from December to February. It may be more crowded during these months because of the lower temperatures but if you don't do well in the heat like I do, it will be worth it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
