As we're heading into the month of February, most colleges and universities are in the midst of second semester. Long gone are the days when everything at school felt new and exciting... Professors are less and less forgiving, and the urge to just take a nap is especially strong. Motivation to do homework and go to class are almost non-existent for some. Rather than walk around like a zombie with a bunch of student debt, here are some tips on how to survive second semester:
1. Remind yourself all the things you love about your major/future career.
Remembering what all the mundane, day-to-day school stuff is for can actually help you work harder. Even harder than Kermit the Frog.
2. Ask for help!
There's absolutely no shame asking your professor, classmates, library technician, or IT department for help. Besides, who wants to do college all by their lonesome?
3. Pick one good habit and try to stick with it throughout the semester.
Whether it's going to bed at a decent time, not having ice cream everyday, or trying to be more organized, picking a good habit to start is good for the soul. Who cares if you fail the first few times? Just try and stick with it.
4. Find a study buddy (or buddies).
Motivating yourself to study is hard, but doing it with a friend to keep you accountable makes it a lot easier.
5. Give yourself a break every once in a while!
It's important to take it easy every once in a while. Just remember to try and always get started again.
6. Enjoy the present.
College goes by faster and faster every year. Take time to look around every day and enjoy what's happening in the moment.
7. When everything around you seems to be falling apart, know that coffee is always there for you.
Coffee will never let you down. Unless it's decaf of course.
