5 Steps To Survive College Without Your Pets
Caitlin Josephs

I absolutely love my dog. Her name is Scout. We have great times together. We will sit on the couch and watch TV or go outside and run around in my backyard or go to the dog park. She is the best dog – well, I think at least. When college started to approach, I knew that my time would be limited with my best friend. I came home as much as I could to see her. Over winter break, I made another bet with my parents and got another dog. His name is Harper. He is the craziest dog in the world. He will run around my house for hours and won’t stop. He’s now my other best friend, but don’t tell Scout. She’ll get jealous. Now, I miss both of my best friends, but I have some advice for you on how to help you not miss your best friends as much.

Step 1: Face time with your dog or dogs

Have your parents face time you and just talk to your dogs. They will recognize your voice I am sure. When I faced time my parents the other week and I started talking, my puppy Harper started to bark. They know what your voice sounds like, and they miss you.

Step 2: Petzi Treat Cam

Ask for a Petzi Treat Cam for your birthday or Christmas or just make a bet. The Petzi Treat cam is a Wi-Fi connected pet camera and remote treat dispenser. You can chat with your best friend and give them a snack. You can get a picture of your pet enjoying his or her snack and share it with your friends and family. This is available on Amazon if your parents ask.

Step 3: Pet any dog you see

Pet any dog you see around campus. There are some students who have dogs in their apartments, and when they take them on walks around campus just stop and pet the dog for a little. I know it’s not your best friend, but it will bring you some happiness

Step 4: Finals week dogs

Go and see the dogs that they bring in for finals week. There are groups that bring in dogs for finals week, and you can go and cuddle with them and pet them. They will help you get through the stress of finals week and help you last until you see your best friend again.

Step 5: Have your dog come for a visit

Have your parents bring down your dog or dogs for a weekend. I haven’t gotten my parents to do this yet, but I am working on it. You can show your best friends around campus, and they can see where you live for the time being.

I hope some of these suggestions will help you survive college without your furry friend. Remember, spring break is just around the corner, and your best friend awaits.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
