Camps all over the globe have debated whether summer camp 2020 should happen or not amidst COVID-19. Camps require a lot of financial resources and stability due to being primarily seasonal businesses. Summer camps already have to find a way to stay afloat during the school year; However, COVID-19 has put a bigger damper on the budgets of thousands of summer camps. Although the virus is happening, summer camps are still active this summer and need your support.
Governor Kemp gave strict guidelines for summer camps if they were going to open back up. For example, masks must be worn when being close to children, children's belongings must be separated throughout the day, children must stay 6 feet apart (without a mask), markers need to be clean between each child using them, canoes and lifejackets are sanitized between every use as well, and the long lists continues. . .
Following the guidelines of sanitization and other changes can be expensive in itself to a camp, but it could be even more expensive for a camp to go a summer without business. Although camps are looking to make a profit, they are also looking to get children out of the house and make an impact on them. At this point, children have been at home for an extended amount of time and they are missing human interaction. This summer, children still need to have an opportunity to be surrounded by others their age and have fun. Although camps are still happening during the pandemic, they are checking hundreds of things off on checklists and training their staff to ensure the safety of the children at camp.
The concept of keeping children safe, six feet apart, and wearing their masks, while having fun, seems impossible; however, children are missing that interact as well as wanting to try new things and feel productive. Summer camps can be educational and get your children to learn more about themselves and the world around them.
Think about supporting a local summer camp and get your children out and having a fun summer!
