Seniors, this is it! The final homestretch before you embark on your journey into the real world! During this month, you will have many moments that are bittersweet and many moments that are jubilant! As a high school senior myself, I am currently in your shoes. Graduation is only a few weeks away and although there will be many last moments, there will be astonishing opportunities. For instance, you get to become closer as a class in general and even the people you thought you won't miss, you actually will miss. Here are moments that are lasts along with senior activities you will embark during this final month.

1. Your Last Sporting Event

If you take part playing a sport, then this is for you. You are going to miss practices with your team, the long bus rides to the away games, playing against other teams and the exhilaration you get from winning. Your team is like a family to you and although graduating means not being able to play on the team anymore, you will always be apart of that team! Although you are leaving a big part of your life behind, even if you are still going to play in college, the memories of all the wonderful times you've had together will last forever.

2. Your Last Concert

If you are a student involved heavily in your schools music department like I am, this is for you. After many months sitting in either choir, orchestra, band or jazz band rehearsing, it feels great to be able to perform for your friends and family. However, the bittersweet moment hits you like a bus when the spring concert rolls around and you have to perform for the last time ever. As a choir student, I relate to this strongly. We've performed at many music in the parks competitions and even got the privilege to sing twice for the New York Mets! Even the seniors got placed into senior choir where we got even more opportunities. Stepping onto that stage with your group of talented musicians that has became like a family to you for the very last time will be very emotional. There will be many tears flowing that night but remember all the wonderful times you and your music group has had together!

3. Senior Awards

This is an opportunity for all seniors. During the last week of school, seniors have the opportunity to receive awards. Each award is based on scholarships that can help pay for college, awards presented by teachers and everyone's favorite: SENIOR FAVORITES!! As the winner of most school spirited in the female category, I applied for many scholarships and took part in senior events. The senior awards ceremony is a huge senior privilege for high school seniors! If you win one, you can receive enough financial aid to help with the cost of books next year!

4. PROM

You have been anticipating this moment since you were a freshman and this month, it is finally here! Your senior prom! Whether you are bringing a date or just going with a group of friends, you are guaranteed to have the most magical moment of your life. There will be music, dancing, good food and that anticipating slow dance (even if its going to be awkward, you still get a good laugh out of it)! Plus, you get to see everyone all dolled up too and prom has a big impact on your self image. You spend the day getting glammed up and then when you walk into prom, you will receive a lot of complements! Don't forget to smile, have fun and dance the night away!

5. Yearbooks

The bittersweet yet joyful moment of the last week of high school is receiving your high school yearbook. You will be singing and receiving hundreds of signatures from your closest friends to people you never even said hello to. This yearbook holds the memories throughout the last 4 years of high school that you will cherish forever as life goes on. High school may be just about over but you will never forget the wonderful memories you have made!

6. Typical Everyday School Life

You may not think you will miss this but trust me, you will. Throughout the years, you have adjusted to a set schedule. College will not have this little hallways (okay I doubt anyone will miss that factor). You have been seeing the same people everyday for most of your lives and next year, you'll be in a new pond surrounded by brand new fish in the sea. You will miss going to your friends lockers during a 4 minute interlude between classes just to chat. You have been so used to going directly from class to class but in college, you have to walk a lot more to get to your next class. Remember all of the little moments because it will never happen the same way afterwards.

7. And Finally... Graduation

The most bittersweet moment of senior year is graduation. The moment when you will be seeing some of your peers for the last time as you all go off to college, the marines, military, vocational training or even straight to work. Your whole grade will be receiving diplomas on stage in front of all their loved ones to see. Plus it's your last hurrah of high school so make it count! Take pictures with your friends and best of all, you are allowed to decorate your graduation cap appropriately and beautifully!! Receiving your diploma at the end of the year is such a surreal feeling!

Senior year overall is the best and most memorable year of high school. Even when senioritis hits and many people wish high school would end sooner, there are so many different events and opportunities during the final month of the school year. In my opinion, this year thus far has been such a positive and wonderful year! When I was just a freshman a few years ago, I never thought these words would come out of my mouth but I'm going to say them loud and proud: "I AM GOING TO MISS THIS SCHOOL"! This month will fly by much quicker than you expect so make this your year and your chance to shine!!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
