We're constantly being judged, ranging from praise to harsh criticism, and it's easy to fall into a trap of seeing people as their first impressions, but nothing more. That is why it's important to look deeper and search for the good in people, no matter how different they seem, or how difficult it may be to find even the slightest glimmer of good.
"What you see in other people is a reflection of yourself. A person of goodness sees goodness in others and a person of evil sees evil in others." - Omar Suleiman
Everyone makes mistakes, and it can be near impossible to look past or forget how someone hurt you. However, I think the strongest people are the ones who still see another person's good qualities. You don't have to be naive and maintain a close relationship with a person who took you for granted, but you also don't have to shut your eyes to the joy they once brought into your life.
I think we should all recognize that no one is completely good or completely bad. Seeing that good allows you to see the humanity in others as well.
How I see others is not colored by their mistakes; I don't look at another person and see a mess of imperfections, even if those imperfections have revealed themselves to me many times.
We can choose to let people's faults influence our choice in friendships, but we don't have to let their actions change how we see them as imperfect human beings, no different from the rest of us.
