How Season Two Of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Stacks Up

How Season Two Of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Stacks Up
Netflix

Last year, Netflix blessed us with the quirky comedy that is "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." From Kimmy's laughable disparity of pop culture, Titus's funny one lines and song "Peeno Noir," to Jacqueline's "struggles" as a rich white woman in New York City, there is nothing not to love about this series. After waiting over a year for Season Two, I did what any reasonable person would do, and sat down and watched the whole second season in one sitting. I was worried that the second season wouldn't be as good as the first without the entire plot involving the Indiana Mole Women and the reverend, but just after the first episode, my doubts were put to rest, and before I knew it, I was watching the last episode. (Spoiler alert)

The Positives

Titus and his new boyfriend

I'm sorry every other fictional couple that I ever shipped, but these two are the greatest tv couple right now. Mikey wants to date Titus, but due to the fact that he has never been on a date with another guy before, it was bound to be difficult. After a rocky start, the two bond over their love of "The Lion King" and the rest his history. Together, they make the cutest couple being able to balance their differences and still love one another. The scene where Mikey comes out to his family is sure to make anyone's heart explode.

Jacqueline's rival Deirdre Robespierre

Bringing in Anna Camp to play Deirdre was one of the best decisions made this season. Conversations between the two of them were filled with jealousy, anger, threats, and even some sexual tension. Deirdre's character is tells the tale of a brilliant woman who chose to be a trophy wife instead of pursuing a career, turning to mind games with Jacqueline in order to work her brain and "make her feel something again." Anna does such an amazing job playing the part that you don't know if you fear Deirdre or aspire to be her.

Tina Fey's guest starring role

Considering Tina Fey is one of the creators of the show, she is bound to guest star again like she did in the first season, playing one of Kimmy's lawyers. This season she comes back as one of Kimmy's drunk uber drivers who becomes her therapist. Seeing Tina pretend to be drunk is so funny she doesn't even have to say anything, but the lines that actually do come out of her mouth are pure gold. Also, the many drunken schemes she has Kimmy participate in are all hilarious and all I could do was wish that she was in more.

Jacqueline's character growth

This season Jacqueline is completely different than we saw her last season. After her divorce leaves her with only $12 million to her name, she decides at first that she needs to put on a show and make people think she is still rich. She spends most of her money on a painting, tries to date a younger man to make her ex jealous, and pretends to like an older lawyer for his money. However, over the course of the season, we see a shift in her, partly due to reconnecting with her Native American roots, that makes her change everything. She tries out parenting her son and succeeds, she holds a gala not for the social aspect, but for the actual charity, she takes a stand against her boyfriend's family to rename the Washington Redskins, and most of all, she actually falls in love with her lawyer boyfriend, and not for his money.

The Negatives

Lack of Xanthippe

The lack of Xanthippe this season left me wanting more. Although we see her in one episode brooding over the fact that Kimmy has caused her to have to move out of her home, it doesn't compare to anything we got from her last season. I wanted more sassy comments and more back and forth between Xan and Kimmy.

Kimmy and Dong's relationship

Kimmy and Dong's relationship this season fell flat. For more than half the season, he was holding up his fake green card marriage, unable to interact with Kimmy in any way. When we finally get the episode where they run away together, it is actually the last time we see Dong. After a latex allergy emergency gets the two caught for trespassing, Dong is deported back to Vietnam. Not before getting to do it in the back of a police car I must add.

All in all, this season was amazing and maybe even better than the first. I just hope they announce a Season Three in the future because there is so much more I want to see with all these characters!

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
