As any Rutgers student can agree, the bus system straight up sucks. This has been an ongoing issue and their haven't been any plans proposed to fix it. There are a few simple ways that Rutgers can improve its bus system to prevent issues such as overcrowding and the seemingly lack of certain buses.
One way that Rutgers can improve the bus system is to make every bus a long bus, such as the buses for the EE. These buses have a huge amount of space and can fit many more students than the regular buses. If Rutgers made every bus like this, or at least had more of them for the other bus routes, this could solve a lot of issues. Everyone hates how crowded the buses get. About 70 percent of the time I take a LX, there are so many people that I can barely move. This is not only a safety hazard, but just really annoying. I'm sure I am not the only one who is tired of being sandwiched in between two strangers almost every time I take a bus.
Another way to make the bus system better is to make the amount of buses for each route even. There are clearly a lot more LX buses than there are REXLs, which causes people to wait significantly longer for their desired bus than others do. The University should take this into consideration and make an even number of buses available for each route.
One of the biggest issues I see is the crazy amount of people waiting at certain stops (mainly Scott Hall) for their bus to come. Once it does, everyone turns into animals trying to fight their way on to the bus. This is an issue that definitely needs to be addressed and with the suggestions I have provided, maybe there won't be as many brawls.
Though it may seem like things won't ever change, the implementation of these simple suggestions could solve a good amount of problems. Let's just hope Rutgers listens.
