'Riverdale' And '13 Reasons Why' Are Basically The Same Show

Which high school drama should you binge watch on Netflix?

"13 Reasons Why" is a Netflix original that is a study that shows how we treat one another and examines the "small" aggressions we commit that cause unthinkable pain. This American-mystery drama based off of Jay Asher's book puts viewers on the edge of their seats as they watch Clay Jensen discover the 13 tapes his friend, Hannah Baker left behind as she commits suicide.

As my friend Lily says, Riverdale is "a show that will break your heart and put it back together again, then break it." A binge-worthy show based off the Archie Comics. While navigating through the troubled waters of sex, romance, school, and family, Archie and his gang embark in a dark Riverdale mystery. While watching Riverdale, I couldn't help but think of how similar 13 Reasons Why was.

Here are a few plot points to show why they are almost the same exact series.

1. It all revolves around death

A plot point that essential in both shows is death. Hannah Baker's suicide (in "13 Reasons Why") and Jason Blossom's murder (in "Riverdale") is what the first season (both 13 episodes, by the way) is about.

2. Ross jocks it out

Ross Butler is Reggie Mantle on "Riverdale "and Zachary Dempsey on "13 Reasons Why. "A well-meaning guy with an overwhelming sense of entitlement. He wants to do the right thing, but rarely does.

3. In the closet

Kevin Keller is openly gay, but the people he hooks up with are not. "13 Reasons Why, "Alex is perceived as gay (both happen to be the sons of local towns cops). Hannah is bi-curious, but is let down by her friend Courtney Clemson.

4. Lead character's mom is a lawyer

In "13 Reasons Why," Clay's mom returns to her practice in the middle of the season while we learn Archie's mom being a lawyer, again in the middle of the season.

5. Love Triangle

In "13 Reason's Why," Hannah has feelings for Justin but later on, Justin starts dating Hannah's best friend Jessica. Also in the beginning of the season of "Riverdale", Betty has feelings for Archie, however, her feelings fade when she learns that Veronica and Archie hooked up.

6. Voice of reason

Jughead Jones (who doesn't love him?!), despite his father's troubles with the law, is a sorted-out kid. He is the one who has his head about them when everyone (girlfriend Betty Cooper included) is losing theirs. Also, Jughead is troubled by Jason's death the most. On "13 Reason's Why," Tony Padilla is the best friend Clay could ever have! He keeps him from going cray cray.

7. Where the cool kids go

"Riverdale "has Pop's Chock'Lit Shoppe while "13 Reasons Why "has Monet's Garden, a coffee shop.

8. Ends with deaths and cliffhangers

Alex Standall dies in "13 Reasons Why," while Cliff Blossom hangs himself in "Riverdale, "after it is discovered he carried on an illegal drug trade under the cover of a maple syrup business. The finales of both shows leaves viewers with many questions left to be answered. Who shot Frank Andrews in "Riverdale"? What is Hannah's parents going to do with the remaining tapes? Will Bryce go to jail? What's up with the lawsuit? Is Hannah Baker going to haunt the town?

Only time will tell, when both season 2 of each show releases...

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
