When you're in college, finding a way to relax can be very challenging. About halfway through the semester, you start to panic about homework, quizzes, tests, and grades in general. The struggle to find a way to relax that gives you enough time to get your work done is difficult.
The answer lies in the weekend. Ah, yes. Those golden days everyone looks back on and prays to return to when the work is finished.
Some weeks are easier than others. Unfortunately, when the harder weeks present themselves, they can be soul crushing. Knowing that the weekend is on its way can be a relief, or a nightmare, if you aren't productive. I hope that you chose to be productive. Having the weekends to recover has been my solace.
For the past few weeks, plans were made between my friends and I to go on a road trip! Of course, I knew weeks in advance. Getting work done in preparation for this road trip was crucial to the success of the trip.
Two-weeks-ago-me decided that was a problem for present me. So, here I am rushing to get all my work done, in one of the most busiest weeks I've had this semester. But I'm going on a road trip. I have to, after this week. It's time to relax.
Present me is very cross with two-weeks-ago-me. Knowing me, two-weeks-from-now-me, will be mad at present me for something as well.
This is the cycle. Plan an event, mentally prepare for the event, wait for the event, realize there is more to do than anticipated, panic, hurry, relax. It's not healthy, I know.
I look forward to these weekends. This time of relaxation, where I can wash off the anxiety of the week, continue to build my friendships, and learn from experience.
So, this weekend is approaching, I am rushing once more to finish the week out with strength. As I approach the end of the school week, I'll start to wear out.
I know the perfect remedy.
A road trip with friends and a weekend spent in my roommate's hometown. By the time Monday arrives, I'll be refreshed and ready to start again. I'll work hard. Possibly bite off more than I can chew, but I'll take heart. The weekend is always around the corner.
