In the past week or so, a new craze has hit the internet and our lives. It's called Pokemon Go, a new game app that forces you to get out in the real world and catch Pokemon as you walk around.
Now, I have never really been a big Pokemon fan. All I ever knew about Pokemon was Pikachu. That's it. But when I saw that people were playing this game that requires you to get out and look for Pokemon in the real world, I was instantly curious.
So, I downloaded the game, caught my first Pokemon in the Japanese restaurant (ironically) and was set to adventure the real world looking for more creatures to collect. I will admit, I've only walked around once trying to find these things but it was fun pretending that they were right there in real life and I had to catch them. If I had more free time, I definitely would play this more.
Now, onto why I am thinking Pokemon is good for us. Before this game, we all could play any game we wanted to from the comfort of our beds or desks. No one was forcing us to go out into the real world and actually walk and get exercise.
Yes, you read that right. The real world. You can't play Pokemon Go unless you are out walking around, or somehow outside. (You can also play it in your car but I feel like that is way more dangerous.) As you walk, the game will open up your camera and a Pokemon will seem as if it is there in real life. The goal is to catch the Pokemon and add it to your collection!
This game, in my opinion, is genius. I don't know if it was part of the plan to force the youth of today to get out and walk, but it definitely has and I am in full support of it. I have never seen so many people my age willingly go outside and walk - especially with how hot it has been recently.
So, you go Pokemon Go. You're not only making tons of money off this, but you're helping us lazy millennials get out into the real world and out of the digital one just a little more.
