Your late teen years and into your twenties can be a difficult time of searching and wandering through life. Plain and simple, growing up is hard. Hashtags like #adulting indicate when we're proud of doing difficult things like making a doctor's appointment, making three square meals a day or paying our bills on time.

It can seem like there are so many directions in life and you're always dealing with anxiety and stress trying to choose what you want to do. Here's three steps to help find direction.

1. What are you passionate about?

The path we are meant to take should set our hearts on fire. When I came to college, I thought I really wanted to be a high school Spanish teacher. I prepared for all of my high school years. It wasn't until I took a few Spanish classes in college that I realized I dreaded going to them. I loved my religion class, so I thought more about pursuing that path instead. I loved my faith and I loved sharing it with others. Once I finally switched, I felt like I actually belonged there!

2. What brings you the most peace?

This one goes along with your passions. When your inner desires are aligned with your life, your heart can be happy with your decisions. Intuition is a great tool that allows us to understand when something just isn't clicking right in your life. Listen to your gut, it's a really good friend.

3. What makes sense?

You can plan all you want, but life just happens. Everything happens for a reason. Doors in our lives are opened and closed, and we have to accept how that happens for inner peace in our lives. We tend to make discerning way more complicated than it needs to be, when in reality, your life is going to play out exactly the way it was meant to be. Let go, and let the rest come easy. You don't need to figure out what you're doing for the next 10 years. Focus on today, and the rest will come naturally.

Making decisions can be one of the most nerve-wracking tasks we will ever come across in our lives. I promise I am not an expert at this and I struggle all the time, but I have gained some knowledge in my 21 years of life. Follow these few steps, and trust yourself. All will be well!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
