I think it’s time for a pep talk. Not just to myself but to everyone out there right now who needs a lift or a push to “keep on keepin’ on.” Whether it be that you feel unappreciated at work or that you feel discouraged after this past semester concluded, you can do it! I believe in you and I know that you have what it takes. How can I say this if I don’t know you? Because I believe everyone has the tools they need to be great, they just need to find the courage to use them. Sometimes it’s a matter of one foot in front of the other, but sometimes it’s about getting inspired! Life is too short to float through without enjoying it and finding excitement in little things.
Come up with a new idea and work and volunteer to head it, choose something that you’d love to bring to your company. Take a class that you don’t need just to simply LEARN, because when was the last time you’ve done that? I’d guess freshman year? Why not just take one more class for pleasure? Find ways to get interested in your other classes for next semester, try to find something interesting about the class over break and do your research in advance. Next semester don’t fall behind on notes, use colored pens and highlighters to keep your attention better, even if it is just slightly.
Go to the gym and eat healthily! Not because you want to look good, but because you want to feel good. You want endorphins and natural vitamins surging through your veins. This will make you more focused, energized, and put you in a better more. Even if it’s just a bit of yoga or jogging to start off your day. Smile more. The more you smile the happier you feel, who said you need a reason to smile? Besides, smiling at a stranger can genuinely brighten their day. Volunteer in your free time. It’s statistically proven that when you help others you feel more self-wort and therefore lead a happier life.
Get rid of the clutter in your life! Throw away all of the junk, not just physically but mentally and emotionally. Let go of that ex significant other that’s been haunting your dreams, let go of that toxic friend who tends to put you down backhandedly and disappoint you. Let go of whatever is going on in your family life. It’s all going to be OK. I’m going to say this one more time because it’s important you really soak it in… It’s all going to be okay. Worrying about something constantly isn’t going to fix it. So breathe in those good vibes and exhale all of the crap. This is a whole new year, and you have the chance to make this year legendary.
You have a whole 12 months to accomplish your goals so take 15 minutes and write them down. Whether it be putting it in a draft on your phone or making a poster for the inside of your closet door, really take the time to articulate what and how you’d like to accomplish these goals. Give yourself incentives! For example, say my goal is to get promoted at work by March if I accomplish that goal I will buy myself a new purse. If my goal is to get some kind of exercise at least five days a week, if I do that consistently until April I’ll splurge for the new running shoes I’m dying to get my hands on. You want to reward yourself every so often for completing these goals. Most importantly, journal about them. Journal about how it’s going, any ideas you have, any struggles you encounter… it will help more than you’d think. This new year isn’t ready for what you’re about to bring. Get in there and show them what you’re made of! You can do it, all you need is a plan and a little bit of courage. Happy 2016 ! Here’s to the new year and to the new you.
Cheers,
M
