Let's rewind to the grand year of 2009. Obama was in his first year as President, Kanye West stole Taylor Swift's thunder at the VMAs and for me, I entered into my first year of middle school.

Middle school is an awkward time for most people, and while I was no exception, I would say I had a pretty positive experience in these formative years.

In my school district, sixth grade means a new school with plenty of new people to meet. One of these new faces was a boy who would become a good friend of mine. It became pretty obvious that this boy wanted to be more than friends, whatever that means in middle school. I knew he had a big crush on me but it was never something I reciprocated; I always just thought of him as a great friend.

Fast forward nine years, it's 2018 and I'm a sophomore in college. I'm going to Sam's Club to buy some fresh squeezed OJ (If you haven't tried this stuff I highly recommend it) and who do I see wiping down the cooler but that same boy who was crushin' on me in middle school. He asked for my number and I gave it to him! At the very least I wanted to reconnect with this good friend that I had drifted apart from.

We started talking. It became clear that we had both grown and matured a lot from our middle school selves. I could tell he was a seriously awesome person who I definitely wanted to be a part of my life. It wasn't long before I caught the feels. When he asked me on a date, I happily said yes.

And the rest is history!

The lesson here is timing is everything. If we had started dating in middle school like he wanted to I doubt we would still be together today. We had so much learning and growing to do before we would be ready for each other.

So be patient, you never know when the right person will come into your life at the right time! If you're still pining over that childhood crush, you might still have a chance with them! You never know until you try!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
