How My Community has Impacted Me

How My Community has Impacted Me

I can't say I come from one single place as my childhood has taken me to locations around the world. I was born in Kolkata, West Bengal in India and stayed there for most of my childhood with occasional trips to the USA due to my father's job. Living in India has a colossal influence on my personality as I immerse myself in Indian culture. My love for music was born when I started singing Indian classical music at age 3 and have continued to this day.

My family permanently settled in Atlanta, Georgia when I was six as my parents wanted me to have an "American" education. My parents staying in the U.S.A for me made me realize how fortunate and lucky I am. I am blessed to be able to have so many opportunities in my life that I do not want to waste. I want to make my parents proud of me and the future I will create due to staying in America. Additionally, being born in India has given me a closer attachment to my family. I have been inspired by my grandmother, who has a passion for math, to continue in her footsteps.

Moving from India to Atlanta allowed me to gain a greater perspective of the world from a little age. When I moved to Atlanta, English was one of my weakest subjects as it is my second language; however, I excelled in math and enjoyed being ahead of my grade level ever since elementary school. I fell in love with the subject of math in third grade when my teacher used innovative methods to teach me math. In Atlanta, I felt alone as very little kids shared similar passions with me. After my move to Alpharetta, I finally felt like I belonged as there were many kids who I could relate to and I created lifelong friends in middle school that are always there for me.

My stay at Alpharetta has shaped me to be tenacious and self-driven. Every student here works tirelessly to achieve their goals, which inspired me to accomplish my dreams. I challenge myself by taking rigorous classes at which I work diligently to make sure I have all As. Furthermore, I have learned to take risks and believe in myself through the support of my family and friends. In freshman year, I was extremely scared of failure, thus I didn't push myself as much as I do now. In my sophomore year, I took more risks, which resulted in me having three officer positions, a tutoring job at Eye Level, and an internship at Odyssey. Furthermore, the support I have has allowed me to be able to push myself and apply for the immersion program in the fear of rejection.

Numerous places have shaped me into the person I am today. I am blessed to have been born with such amazing opportunities in my life. I make sure that I gain knowledge and skills from each community I am part of to grow and prosper in my future.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
