Standing in the audience, the bass pounds through your chest, you feel the fire heat on your face. The band you're obsessed with runs out onto the stage, and you go crazy. The lyrics touch your soul, and the bassist makes you wish he was your husband. Music is a therapy, and just like any aspect of art, it is part of your everyday life. Without it, I don't know where or who I would be. It is my best friend, my inspiration and most importantly, my lifeline. As cliche as it sounds, music saved my life, and here are some of the reasons why.
1. The lyrics speak to me.
Whenever I feel down or plagued with life's cruel realities, I listen to the lyrics. It is like peering into someone else's struggles and saying hello to their demons. It's like they're telling me to just keep holding on. I just try to remember you are what you love not who loves you. They got through this, and so can I.
2. It reminds me success is possible.
I am often bogged down by everyday life, a project or test, work sucks and my boyfriend just broke up with me. I look at Taylor Swift and Adele and think so many people probably shut the door in their face. It gives me hope; it gives me purpose to be here on this earth. None of them would have been able to accomplish all that they have without their failures.
3. It's my friend when I have no one else.
When I feel like no one else understands what I am going through, I just put in my headphones and zone out. Chances are, you can find a song or artist to match your mood. It's similar to meditation for me; it just feels so peaceful to listen and learn.4. Nothing compares to a concert.
I can't even explain the crazy amount of energy you get from being at a concert. It is better than medicine; it's better than any hallucinogenics. It's so perfect and magical, you never want it to end. I have never felt more at home than in a crowd screaming my favorite lyrics.
5. Music has helped me figure out my dream job.
Even if you think it might be far-fetched, I have found I want to combine my love of writing and music. I would only dream of working in the concert industry, or for a music magazine like Alternative Press. I want to pursue this passion and help others.
