July of 2012. I'll repeat, July of 2012 was the last time R&B singer Frank Ocean released a studio album. Fast forward four years later, and fans are anxiously waiting for a follow up to the game-changing Channel Orange. Granted, we have heard Frank's voice on track's like "Frank's Track" on Kanye West' Life of Pablo, but he was suppose to release his own album on Friday for the past 95 Fridays. To illustrate how much time has gone by, the following is a list of significant events I've lived through since singing "Novance" at the top of my lungs.
1. President Obama was re-elected as President of the United States.
2. Riley Curry wasn't born and people only said curry when talking about chicken.
3. I graduated high school.
4. Harambe was alive.
5. This was the iPhone YouTube app logo.
6. Soulja Boy was kissing people through the phone.
7. Zayn was a member of One Direction.
8. The Spice Girls reunited for the London Olympics.
9. Lebron was with the Heat celebrating a new Larry trophy.
10. "Wizards of Waverly Place" was still playing on Disney Channel.
11. Kimye was born.
12. "30 Rock" ended after seven glorious seasons.
13. Beyoncé performed at the Super Bowl for the first of two times.
14. Harlem Shake videos were viral.
15. "Orange is the New Black" was released by Netflix.
16. Six seconds became the new 15 minutes of fame with the release of Vine app.
17. The world met Caitlyn Jenner on Vanity Fair's cover.
18. "Mad Max Fury Road" came out and changed my life for the better.
19. Flower crowns, dogs and face swap were introduced via Snapchat.
20. Highly anticipated albums from Rihanna, Adele and Kanye all dropped and exceeded expectations. At this point, Frank, you can just release a single of breathing and you'll earn critical acclaim.
Needless to say, Frank, I can't imagine how much more time you need to make another album. I was in the eighth grade when Channel Orange dropped, and now I'll be a college student when Boys Don't Cry drops.
