How Much Does It Really Cost To Maintain a Private Jet

In This Article:

Aircraft ownership is not easy. You need to pay a lot of money upfront to buy the aircraft, then you need to maintain it and repair it if something goes wrong. Maintenance costs can easily reach hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you own a small airplane, you might even need to hire a pilot to fly it for you.

Here are some of the associated maintenance costs that you need to consider before buying a Private Jet:

Maintenance Storage

Owning an airplane is expensive. Even if you just fly once a year, you still have to store your plane somewhere during the rest of the time. You also need to pay for insurance, fuel, and other expenses. If you own multiple planes, you'll need to rent storage space for each one. And if you're storing your plane at a major airport, you may end up paying thousands of dollars every month.

Variable Flight Based Operating Costs

There are many other costs associated with any plane ride. For example, there is the cost of jet fuel, which is usually about $2.00 per barrel. There are also the costs of airport fees, security checks, and air traffic controllers. These costs add up quickly, especially when you consider all the flights that happen every day.

Airport fees vary widely around the world. Some airports charge a flat rate, while others calculate fees based on the type of aircraft, its size, the number of passengers, and the length of the flight. For example, in the United States, the cost of an international flight is currently about $61.75 per hundred nautical miles flown. In Canada, the cost depends on the weight of the plane, the number of passengers and the length of the journey.

Overall Hourly Operating Cost

It is very hard to estimate the cost of flying an airplane. There are many factors that affect the price, including time of year, weather conditions, number of passengers, distance flown, etc. A good rule of thumb is to multiply the number of seats times $1,000 per seat. That gives you a rough idea of what it will cost.

Citius, Altius, Fortius: These words describe the qualities of the fastest planes in the sky. But what about the slowest? That's right, you guessed it, the slowest plane in the sky is the Cessna Citian Mustang. The price tag is just under $1,000.

Next up is the HondaJet, which costs around $1,100. Then comes the Cessna Citation MII, which starts at $1,400. The next cheapest plane is the Learjet 75, which costs $2,170. The top of the line is the Gulfstream G150, which goes for $2,380. The last plane we'll mention is the Dassault Falcon 900Lx, which costs $3,588.

And finally, the slowest plane is the Embraer Legacy 600, which costs $3.74.

Buying or Chartering Aircraft

Private jets are expensive. If you're going to spend $100,000 on an airplane, why not just buy a plane? Private jet owners usually pay hourly rates for flights, including fuel, crew, insurance, maintenance, and other expenses. For example, JetBlue charges $1,500 per hour for its service. Some private jet operators charge a flat rate for every flight, regardless of distance flown. Others offer discounts on longer trips.

In The Hands of Those Who Understand

Aircraft management companies offer a range of services to owners of private jets. These include technical assistance, maintenance, insurance, and even aircraft purchasing. A specialist company may be able to save you money and time. However, there are risks associated with using an external manager. For example, if your plane crashes, you could face legal issues.

Aircraft owners can choose whether to manage their planes themselves or hire professionals to do it for them. If they opt for the latter, they will have access to a pool services, including an aeronautical engineer and other staff.

You can rent a plane for just R$ 40 thousand per month, then I am saving R$ 300 thousand per year.

Conclusion

This is all to say that owning a private aircraft is one of the greatest luxury you could purchase and it is important to be prepared. You don't be able to regret the purchase because you were not aware of the necessary expenses for owning one. This is especially true when you think about the unexpected costs of maintenance or scheduled inspections. But do not fret! It's not difficult to get an aircraft that is private It's all you need is making plans.

If you aren't in the market for a new jet, looking into charter services is the best choice

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
