Friends is one of my favorite shows of all time. So is How I Met Your Mother. I grew up watching friends, but I didn’t start watching HIMYM until college. Little did I know, I was basically watching a newer version of Friends. Don’t get me wrong they are both GREAT shows, but I can’t help but be amused by how similar these two shows are. SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD!!!

At least two characters went to college together

Ross and Chandler. Lily, Marshall, and Ted. Think about how many episodes in both shows throw it back to scenes from college?

One character is a ladies man

Both Joey and Barney are known for their moves with women. Barney with his plays and Joey simply saying, “how you doing?”

At least two of the main characters get married to each other

Marshall and Lily. Monica and Chandler. Barney and Robin. Even drunk Ross and Rachel. Several episodes in both shows were dedicated to each of these weddings.

One character is a bit of a nerd

Ross is a paleontologist and Ted is an architect. Both end up being professors and both eventually date a student.

One character is secretly in love with another

Ross and Rachel. At one point even Joey and Rachel. Barney and Robin. Ted and Robin. Am I the only person that found Joey and Rachel dating to be extremely weird?

Both take place in New York

In fact, in Friends, every single character is from New York! Can you imagine if Lily and Monica went to high school together?

There is a character everyone finds incredibly annoying

HIMYM: Patrice. Friends: Janice.

Someone joined the group in the pilot

Both Robin and Rachel come into the picture during the first episode. Rachel runs out on her wedding and heads to Central Perk, while Robin is out at MacLaren’s when Ted first notices her.

Someone got left at the alter

Ted got left at the alter by Stella and Rachel left Barry at the alter.

Someone has fertility issues

Robin finds out she can never have kids (her imaginary children pictured above,) and Chandler and Monica decide to adopt after being told they won’t be able to have kids.

Both groups have a go-to hangout spot

Are you team Central Perk or MacLaren’s?

Regardless of all the similarities, both are unreal shows, and I can’t help but imagine a show where all the characters meet.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
