In this day and age, us millennials are redefining the way traditional relationships are done. The rise of the internet and social media has impacted every part of our lives. It is ADDICTING. Some even value the world wide web over relationships.
Dating for us is a swipe on Tinder, a buzz on Bumble for the more "ideal" match, or even, a slide into the DM.
That's how I met my boyfriend.
Thousands of memes consume the internet everyday with this new take on dating/hook-ups, but, what happens when it actually works?
Well, here's my story:
I was studying abroad in the country of romance that was full of delicious, saucy carbs, while I ended my nights with scoops full of rich gelato. There was definitely a glass or two of wine in there as well.
The idea there was to meet my real-life Paolo. I dreamed of riding on the back of a vespa through the narrow streets of Rome.
I did meet my real-life Paolo, but, it wasn't exactly in Italy. And, he wasn't exactly a fake Italian pop star.
He was the boy from my high school that I was friends with on Facebook. I never really knew him. I had no intention of getting to know him.
Except... I started to notice he took more interest in my pictures. A like here, a like there.. a like a few days later. I even noticed that I started to search for his handle under my pictures.
And then, one day...
I woke up to church bells and a follower request on twitter. Oh, the internet, how sweet and savvy it is! Lo and behold, my boyfriend requested to follow me on twitter. In my head, I knew he had to search for me. That was him making the first move.
"Hmm.. okay," is what I thought to myself.
Little did I know, a few days later, I had one too many glasses of wine. There I was, sliding into his DM's.
That courageous night changed my life forever.
A month later I was back in America. A week later, we were on our first date.
It's really just history from there.
So, ladies and gentlemen, don't be ashamed about where you meet your "match." It could just be a slide away.
