With summer finally getting started, I thought it would be the perfect time to share some tips that may be useful to anyone preparing for a great summer. If you follow these suggestions, your summer is likely to be phenomenal!

1. Go on adventures

There's nothing that says summer like a spontaneous road trip, a trip to the beach or even going hiking with friends. Whether it's big or small, explore things outside of your everyday routine. Try new things, whether it's a new state or a new restaurant. No matter how big or small, make this summer the summer of adventurous endeavors!

2. Contribute to society

Of course you want to have a lot of fun this summer, but you also want to do something that is going to make others have a good summer. In fact, it has been proven that doing things for others makes us just as happy and satisfied as the ones we are helping out. Sounds like a win/win, right? Whether it's picking up a part-time job, or volunteering somewhere local, try to do something that is going to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

3. Work on yourself

As humans, we should know that there is always room to improve ourselves. This summer, try to improve in at least one area of your life. This could be health wise, education wise, anything really. Instead of spending your summer on the couch, get out and better yourself. Take a workout class, read a book, do something... the payoff will be well worth it!

4. Spend time with the ones you love

For some of us, the summer is the only time we have to be with our family and certain friends. Instead of taking this time for granted, take full advantage of every day you have this summer. Make plans with friends you haven't seen in forever, go to dinner with your grandparents and always let the people you love know how much you love them!

5. Have some "lazy days"

While all of this is important, some "me" time is vital for a great summer. Some days, it's perfectly fine to stay in bed all day watching Netflix. Some days, it's ok that the only two places you get out of bed for is the bathroom and the fridge. It's ok. Summer is the only time that many of us can have these type of days. While it is ok, just don't let your whole summer be consumed with days like this. A couple days of this mixed with a whole lot of productive days is the key to a perfect summer!

6. Be present

Lastly, and also most importantly, be present. Be in the moment in everything you do. You can check your Instagram or Snapchat later. Live life in the moment and savor every memory made! When you're with friends or family, really be with them and not distracted by a phone screen. When you're at work, instead of complaining, just embrace it. Be kind to people, make their day and be eager to do it again the next day. Little things will always be the big things, remember that.

After reading this article, I hope that you all take this advice to heart and that you all have an absolutely amazing summer.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
