It seems that as soon as each semester starts we all have that common goal in the back of our minds: summer. The season we all look forward to; for some it's an opportunity to get some work experience with internships, for others it's using the time to make money because they blew all they were worth last semester, and for others it's a time to kick back relax and see those people you've been missing at school. For those of you who have jam-packed summers planned, here's one tip: take some time for yourself and actually relax.
I know the first thing I do when I get home is think about all of the things I have to do, people I have to see, and places I want to go. What I don't realize is that I don't have to do all of these things in two weeks – I have three months. I seem to forget just how crazy and hectic I am at school and how I always look forward to relaxing at home and taking some time just to lay down and do absolutely nothing because how often does anyone get to do nothing anymore? But as soon as I get home I get pushed in a million different directions with different plans and places to go because in the back of my mind I fear that I won't have the chance to do it again, when in reality I have all the time in the world.
How can you make this summer different than the previous summers? This summer can be your best summer yet if you spend it with the people you love, doing the things you want to do, maybe sometimes even stepping outside the box, and taking some time for yourself to sit back and do absolutely nothing. Take time out of your crazy day and think about your life, think about the things you don't usually think about.
And finally, one of the main things that I've found makes a summer extra special is doing things that you're usually not used to doing. Go some place new with your friends. Make memories that no one will ever forget and make friendships stronger. It's always fun to just chill out around the fire and catch up with friends, but when you go out and do things that you all don't usually do just makes your bonds stronger and gives you many ways to have great memories. It's not all about cramming and pre-planning, it's about being spontaneous, having fun, and doing the things you want to do!
