Winter is a miserable time for many. You’re stuck inside, no matter how many layers you wear you’re still cold and everyone is sick. For a girl who loves the South and warm weather, these Pennsylvania winters are horrific. Instead of sulking around and wishing it was summer, I’ve made it a priority for me to just accept the fact that it’s winter and embrace it! I’ve looked up fun winter activities and snow day ideas so that instead of staying cooped up in my room I can enjoy the time until spring arrives! Here are some ideas for you to have the best winter ever!

Make a slammin’ cup of hot chocolate!

When it’s too cold to go outside, or it’s just physically impossible because of a blizzard, treat yourself to a delicious cup of hot chocolate! Here’s a recipe to make your own hot cocoa from scratch!

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

2 tablespoons sugar

pinch of salt

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup of milk

Simply just heat up your milk in the microwave or over the stove and add the ingredients! And when you’re done, put some whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top! Who doesn’t love a Pinterest worthy cup of hot cocoa?

Take fun pictures in the snow!

Even though it’s cold and you’ll be miserable when you finally get back inside, gather up a few friends and have a little photo shoot! Post your pictures on Instagram and just have fun with it!

Try a winter sport!

Rent some skis or a snowboard and try to learn something new! After you tackle a challenge you’ll feel more confident, and if you go with some friends you’ll have even more fun! Renting skis or a snowboard for just a day isn’t too expensive and it’s definitely worth looking into.

Be a kid again!

Build a fort, get lots of snacks and watch your favorite movie. It’s fun to be able to feel like a kid when it’s snowy out and you just wanna stay warm. *Homemade hot chocolate would also be very good for this activity!*

Find a hill and go sledding!

When I was a kid, my brother and I lived for snow days. We’d gather up our neighborhood friends and walk to our elementary school and we would sled for hours. Recreate those days! Gather some friends and find a hill! Sledding is fun and I can guarantee you’ll make some incredible memories.

My last tip for you is to get crafty!

Go on Pinterest and find some fun crafts! My personal favorite are the popsicle stick snowflakes! They’re super cute, cheap and easy to make! You can even throw some spray paint on them to really make them stand out. They add great decor to any wall!

I hope that if you’re like me and don’t fancy the winter too much you’ll try out a couple of these fun winter activities! Stay warm everyone!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
