Everyone always says they don't have enough time to volunteer their time, but if that person were to find an organization they were passionate about, they might actually find time to volunteer.
Over the course of high school and now college, I have been required to complete community service hours but I always went above and beyond the hours needed and I always will. Recently I got involved on campus in a group called People Helping People. Every week or two we find something in the area of Willimantic to participate in. Whether it be a Jimmy Fund Dance a Thon, writing to our pen pals at the elementary school down the road or just volunteering our Sunday off campus helping out at a local rescue farm.
I have to admit some tasks are more enjoyable than others but I tend to ALWAYS see the greatness in every task because I know it is for a good cause. The Jimmy Fund Dance party was a great way to spread awareness of childhood cancer down at Fenway Park. Also, my penpal makes me so happy! Hearing from her every week is definitely a highlight considering that I never thought I would have such an impact on her day at school. The farm is not the most enjoyable time as we are normally shoveling maneuver or brushing the horses, but I know it still needs to be done.
I have participated in many other events that have to do with volunteering my time in college and even in and around my hometown over the summer. I love to volunteer and I am always receiving emails about something regarding a volunteer position. Although I am not being paid for the labor I am doing, it doesnt much matter to me because I am doing what I love.
With that being said, stay tuned for my article next week as I write about the volunteer position that had the most impact on me.
Thanks for reading this week, xoxo
