How Homebodies Have Fun

From going on Tumblr to watching a whole season of 'Grey's Anatomy' all in one day, homebodies make their own fun.

I am a proud homebody. My ideal night consists of watching Netflix with some pizza or playing video games on my laptop. A couple of people have been trying to get me out of my comfort zone or my "box" as one person calls it, and I've obliged to an extent. Go to the pool with my sisters for the day? Sure, totally fine. Go zip lining even though I have a slight fear of heights? Nope, nada, zilch. I'm here on behalf of all homebodies to say that we aren't boring. In fact, we have fun. A lot of fun, just in our own homes. Sure, I'm just like others and like going out with friends or family to eat or see a movie, but at the end of the day, I'm comfiest in my own home, wearing old pajamas and with my laptop in front of me. We make our own fun, and that's totally fine.

We are amazing at binge watching on Netflix. It's not unusual for me to watch two or three episodes of the show ("Gilmore Girls" currently) in one night before I go to bed. Sometimes I may even watch five episodes maybe two in the afternoon and three at night. Watching TV is something that homebodies do as fun because not only is it sitting in the comfort of their home, but mostly they are by themselves and are enjoying the alone time. I'm not saying all homebodies are introverts, but for me personally this is how I like to binge Netflix-- with peace and quiet.

We are also great at video games. Lately, my summer has been mostly playing Skyrim (I'm trying to get to level 50 by the time school starts). I love video games because I can become another character in any type of situation (basically the same as reading!). While not everyone plays video games, it's super fun and in my opinion is a good activity for homebodies because we play from home! So if anyone wants to come over for a round of Mario Cart, I'm in!

We happen to know the best places that deliver food. I've discovered that Domino's pasta is really good, but sadly my favorite Chinese restaurant doesn't deliver so I'll settle for picking up or eating there just to have some shrimp lo mein. Homebodies will most likely know really good places to eat that deliver also and probably which places to avoid. I can tell you that the employees at the local Domino's where I go to school are probably far more acquainted with the students than the employees at Pizza Hut probably are. I prefer to have my pizza delivered to me so I don't have to move too far from the couch.

From doing our own thing whether it be going on Tumblr all day or watching a whole season of "Grey's Anatomy" in one day, homebodies make their own fun. Sure, sometimes it's nice to push out of our "boxes" and experience the world, but sometimes you have to respect the box. I hate heights and would rather be a vegan for the rest of my life than riding another roller coaster ever again. I don't mind being pushed out of my box to be more social and a little more adventurous but don't go overboard and push someone to do something they hate. I'm proud to be a homebody because homebodies aren't nobodies!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
