As the story goes, a stranger had a pot of gold. He was traveling to an unknown land and on his way, he got tired of carrying the pot of gold. Suddenly, he saw three people by the names Judas, Delilah, and Jezebel standing in a corner. He approached them, gave them the pot of gold and told them to keep it safe until he returns. Now Judas, Jezebel, and Delilah, out of curiosity opened the pot only to find out that it was filled with gold dust. Upon seeing the gold, the three were filled with greed. Jezebel and Delilah decided to send Judas to the nearest town to buy them food. As Judas went away to buy the food, Jezebel and Delilah planned to stab and kill Judas upon his return. Judas, also upon getting the food made a decision to poison Jezebel and Delilah and keep the gold for himself.
Judas came back with the food and he was stabbed right where he was standing. As he bled out and died, Jezebel and Delilah decided to eat the food and share the spoils among themselves. And as you can predict, they died on the spot from the poison that Judas added to the food. The stranger came back, saw the three dead bodies, smiled and took his pot of gold.
I remember a couple of days ago at the bus stop. I started a conversation with this girl sitting next to me and I asked her how she was doing. She broke into tears and told me her phone was missing. As I looked her in the eye, I was optimistic that a Good Samaritan would find it and return it. Sure enough, I saw her the next day and she told me she found it. Now as you read this story, you can live like the characters that had a soul poisoned with greed or be the Good Samaritan that returned the phone. The choices we make are entirely up to us. And for me, only the love of Christ can compel that greed from me. Christ lived the perfect life we could not live and died the death we could not die so that we can love our neighbor like Christ loved us.
