By far, the greatest characteristic of My God is His restoration power. He’s the only reason that any of us can be better today than we were yesterday. He’s the only strength by which we can choose to be better – to want to be better.
Our brokenness is not an obstacle to Him, nor a red flag dissuading Him from giving us a chance. Rather, the mess we create is a gateway for Him to make something beautiful. Our brokenness is where God starts.
He takes your mess. Insecurities. Short-comings. Mistakes. Flaws. Heartaches. Brokenness. Regrets. Tragedies. Hate. Fears. Anger. All of it. He takes them and makes them into something good -- He makes us into something good. Something beautiful. Something with purpose.
He restores. Rebuilds. And He never gives up on us.
I think that says something about God’s character. My pastor always says, “The best test of one’s character is how they treat someone that can do absolutely nothing for them.” This quote perfectly depicts our relationship with God because there is absolutely nothing we can give Him. Nothing that will ever be enough. Nothing that will ever amount to what He is worthy of.
I don’t know about you, but to me, that hits home. Not even our greatest deeds come close to giving back to God that which He deserves. But He loves us anyway. Forgives us anyway. Picks us up anyway. Restores us anyway. And that speaks volumes to me. Even if my ministry will never contend to what My God deserves, I’ll serve Him anyway.
I know it’s easy to take the gospel lightly and to find God to just simply be cliché or overrated, but the thought of what God has done for me even though I’m undeserving is not something to take lightly.
Every day, He continues to work in my life. To wash away my past and restore my brokenness. My God is an artist that painted a masterpiece when He had practically nothing to work with. Just a few scraps. Not much. But it was all I had to give. Even still, God whole-heartedly and enthusiastically uses me for His glory. He does it every day, no days off, no breaks. It’s what He does. It’s who He is. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow.
