How To Get Out Of A Rut

We've all find ourselves stuck in one whether it be just as simple as laying in bed not wanting to get up or the infamous Netflix binge watching

We blink, and just like that it's halfway through the first month of the year! Whether you have gone back to school, work, stuck to your resolutions up until now or not, pat yourself on the back.

It's at the beginning of the year where we feel the most productive and focused on our goals for the year. As the weeks go on, we find ourselves starting to make more and more excuses. Breaks are necessary once in a while, but we have to draw the line between excuses and making frequent breaks. Because let's be honest, when you willingly binge watch Netflix the night before a test you're not ready for, that's not a break (we've all done it, don't be afraid to admit it).

Trying to get yourself out of a rut is a difficult thing to do. Here are just some tips that could maybe help you ease yourself out of it.

Refresh your memory of your goals or New Year's Resolutions

Probably the most effective way to get you back on track is to remind yourself why you started in the first place. Reflect on why you thought changing that part of your lifestyle or improving it would contribute to a better well-being. You will most likely feel that same enthusiasm as when you first came up with your goal! Keep reminding yourself this whenever times get rough.

Make a to-do list for every day and/or week

I am personally a huge fan of this habit and I really think it helps me get everything done for the day. I don't know about you, but checking off the boxes is 10/10 very satisfying and I think it will be for you too.

Take a break from technology

Many people have been taking up social media detoxes whenever they feel their productivity levels are stooping low. They come back from their social media detox and explain how it really does work! In a world filled with a lot of technology and relying on social media for many things, it's good to take a break once in a while. Believe it or not, it does mentally affect you. This is something that really does work and that everyone should try at least a few times!

Create a visual that you will see every day

Remember when I told you to remind yourself of your goals? Well, this tip sort of connects with that. Think about your goals again and get a visual representation of each or at least one or two you are struggling to keep up with. Then, either print out the picture or place that as your lock screen so you can be reminded every day what you're working towards. Another idea that has really worked for me since I'm a visual person is creating a vision board. It's an arrangement of pictures or tasks that represent your goals. I place this right in front of my desk so that I can take a quick glance at it whenever I'm not feeling like learning about cellular respiration. If you're not a visual person, you could also create a schedule or write down your goals on a separate piece of paper and place that where you can see every day!

I'm sure there are many more ways to get yourself out of a rut, but these are just a few of my personal faves. I hope this gives you the motivation to ace that task at work or even leave the house to run some errands. Give it your best every day even when times are getting rough!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
