How It Feels To See New Freshmen on Campus

College is awesome. Although it can be very stressful at times, it can be so incredibly fun.

Going home for the summer is nice too, though. I mean you don’t have to worry about taking classes or eating dining hall food or stressing over finals week. You can relax, catch up with old friends, stay in touch with new ones and even spend some time travelling.

Being home for the summer helps to recharge your mind, soul and body. It helps you take a break from the stresses of school, but being back on campus is the best. It has brought back so many of the wonderful memories from my freshman year. All of the learning that is taking place, both in and out of the classroom. It excites me to think of all of the times to come. All of the memories to be made here.

When I see freshmen on campus, I think of how that was me just a year ago. I ponder on the thought of how fast the past year flew by.

How I have loved everything about this past year: the difficult times when I struggled in a class, the fun times when friends would explore town with me and the boring times when I had to spend hours studying for a test while everyone else was having fun at a football game. I think of how nervous I was to start classes, where everything was or how I was afraid I wouldn’t make any friends.

I can look back now and realize how ridiculous these thoughts were. Sure you hear people tell you all about their college experiences, but until you experience it for yourself you’ll never truly know what college is like.

I think of all of the things I want to say to incoming freshmen about college in general. About how you should put yourself out there, join a club or two, meet people and have the time of your life. Yes, you are here for academics but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time while you’re at it. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself each and every day. Always hold the door open for the person behind you. And most importantly, swipe the upperclassmen into center court (please, we're begging you).

I see all of the freshman walking around in their little groups and excitement is written all over their faces. But deep down I know they are finally ready for this freedom and also scared to death.

I am now realizing that this is the beginning of yet another chapter. I am no longer a young freshman, but a young sophomore. I still have so much to learn and that excites me.

To all you freshmen out there, this year will fly by. Enjoy each and every moment of it. A year from now you'll look back like I'm doing right now and wonder how it happened. Time goes by so quickly, but if you cherish each and every moment and do what you love, you'll be happy with your past.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
