How I, A Victim Of Sexual Assault, Feel Having Trump Elected President

I am not going to bash anyone by any means nor am I going to tell you are wrong for voting for someone. I don’t care whether you voted for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, or a third party. I am not saying I am for one or the other. What I want America to hear is something that needs to be heard no matter your opinions.

As a victim of sexual assault, I am in shock over Trump being elected to the presidency. How am I supposed to live in a country with a president who doesn’t have the respect for women as one should? How am I supposed to have a president who is a constant reminder of the past lead my country? It’s already hard enough but now, and I think I speak for us all, it is going to be harder.

America already has too many reports of sexual assaults. America is already a place where people don’t feel like they can speak up about their assault(s). I am so scared of where we are going to be in four years. We wonder why we have such problems in the US, but here we are electing a president who has been accused of sexually assaulting women. We wonder why victims don’t come forward and tell someone...because we elect presidents who are abusers. Now, I have no idea if those reports are actually true or not but whether or not they are, Trump’s “locker room” talk is still an issue. He has said some things about women that just hit me to the core. This is where rape culture starts! Young men and boys are going to look up to Trump. It breaks me inside to know that they are looking up to someone who doesn’t see his “locker room” talk as a way of encouraging rape culture.

I feel like my country doesn’t care about a problem as big as this. How did we look over this? How are victims supposed to look up to him? How are they supposed to be proud to be an American when their president is just like the person who forever changed their lives? America, when you voted and didn’t want either so you wrote in Harambe, did you think about what the outcome would be? America, when you voted did you think about your daughters, wives, sisters, girlfriends?

America, when you voted did you think of us, the victims?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
