I read the Harry Potter series as a middle schooler and watched all the movies, so when I signed up for a Harry Potter english class last semester I figured my years of Harry Potter knowledge would just come back to me and it would be an easy A...boy was I WRONG. After failing the first quiz (because I didn’t read the first few chapters) I knew it was time to fasten my seatbelt!!!
Here’s how I felt..
READY TO GET IT: the first stage of reading the books. The first couple of books are definitely for young readers, so at first it seems like maybe reading all 7 of them won’t be that much of a challenge?
INTRIGUED: the storyline’s complexity is unreal. From the get go, the story of Harry Potter and his friends is something that I didn’t want to put down!!
OVERWHELMED: a couple books in and now I’m wondering if I’ll really be able to read 800 more pages in the next two weeks??
CONFUSED: not confused about the story, but simply confused how I just went from page 100 to page 450 without taking a snack break!!! The story is just THAT good!!!
HARRY POTTER EVERYTHING: All of a sudden Harry Potter is on my mind 24/7, it’s all I can think about and all I want to talk about. I’m ready to go to the theme park and drink butterbeer!!
“I WANT TO BE A WIZARD”: yeah, this will happen lots of times throughout reading the series. Maybe I don’t want to fight Voldy myself, but I’d love to just hop under an invisibility cloak and creep around Hogwarts sometimes.
Lastly, The “THESE ARE THE BEST BOOKS I’VE EVER READ” feeling. The details in the story and the twists and turns that happen as you read can be felt with no other series. Studying this series in a class was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done...now go start with book one!!
