Listen here, my fellow Americans! I have tried to steer clear from all the crazy political bizz going on the last 2 or so years. I just felt that people were just starting to get a little crazy about it. But NO MORE! I have been quiet long enough and am now officially decided on what I wanted to say to my fellow countrymen. And I must say, it isn’t good.
According to this nifty thing called Google, there are over 300 Million people in the United States of America. And, of those 300 Million peeps, only (less than) one million people have watched my favorite T.V. show, HBO’s The Leftovers.
NOW, I know what you’re thinking. “Justice, did you really just make me click on this just so you can talk about your ‘dumb’ show that no one watches?” The answer? Yeah, I fuckin clickbaited you! Am I sorry? No! But I do ask that you just hear me out! I have good reason to clickbait. If, at the end of all this, you feel like I’ve wasted your time, and you’re angry, simply hit the like button and the share button and help me troll other people. You know you want to!
Anyways, I have been struggling to write about this show ever since I started watching it. It’s really good and, quite frankly, my words won’t do it justice (hehe.) That being said, The final season premieres in April (yeah, it’s technically canceled so the battle is “lost”) and I want it to go out with a bang. The show deserves this from its fans and I want to do my part.
The show sounds more sci-fi than it actually is. Essentially, 2% of the world’s population disappears in a rapture-esque event. Unlike the rapture, it wasn’t pure Christians or “doo-gooders” that poofed, it was seemingly completely random. This isn’t like The Left Behind because the show is completely secular and, if anything, is anti-religion. Well, maybe not anti. But if there was any show that was made for Agnostics, it’s this. Nobody knows what’s going on and they to either make up their own meanings or heavy hand that it had to be something that only God or a high power could have done and makes them ask “Why wasn’t I chosen?”
In the pilot episode, it shows a classroom listening to morning announcements on the intercom. Nobody stands up for the Pledge of Allegiance but almost everybody prays during the moment of silence. The teens in the show have a “fuck it” mentality and kind of go apeshit while some people go off and join cults and other people (namely Kevin Garvey, the protagonist) try to just cope with the new world around them.
I know that it’s confusing. Almost everyone stumbles through the general synopsis. But, overall, this show is just important. It helps start conversations about life and death, depression and anxiety, ambiguous loss and many other important issues in today’s society. The show is the best-acted show I’ve seen since Breaking Bad. The score by Max Richter is superb. The writing is out of this world and I feel like I truly learned things about myself and about people I care about just from this show.
I think I’ve trolled enough. If you don’t wanna share this article, that’s fine (though I can tell you right now that I have had a hoot with whoever opened this expectation political mumbo jumbo)(and IF I read comments on this post about Trump and blah blah blah stuff you either A) Didn’t read the whole thing which is like WTF or B) Are helping me start getting people riled up just to see this is about a tv show. And for that I thank you.)
