You Are Enough

Stay Body Positive This Spring Break

"You are enough. You are so enough. It is unbelievable how enough you are."

With spring break right around the corner, I know a lot of girls, including myself, are worried about their physical appearance. Girls at every college campus are counting every single calorie, going to the rec center during every break, and obsessing over the idea of how they are going to look while they are laying out by the pool. Don't get me wrong, it is so good to take care of your body, to exercise and eat foods that will nourish your body, but is it healthy to obsess over your self image so much that it is all that you think about? So much that it distracts you from your studies? So much that it makes you look at every other girl and think, "Why can't I be her?" So much that it makes you doubt, even for one second, that you are enough?

The answer is no. Absolutely not. It is NOT OK to EVER think that you are not good enough. Life is big. So big that we can not even fathom the idea of freshman year ending, or of graduating from college, or of getting married and having children. Life is too big to stress so much over something so small, like our physical image over one week of the year. What is it all for? To impress the frat boy across the street? Yes, it might be nice to get some validation from the cute guy you've been crushing on, but life is about so much more than being pretty. Life is about love, passion, mistakes, and lessons. It's about laughing with your friends until you cry. It's about spending time with your family. It's about finding someone who loves you for your soul, and can see right through your "pretty." It's about loving yourself-- loving yourself so much that you are comfortable in your own skin.

"Don't call me pretty. I'm clever and creative and brave. I am talented, kind, and well-read. Anyone can be "pretty" with enough effort. I'm so much more than pretty."

Do you think that people will be able to tell how creative or talented you are just by the way you look in the bikini that you bought from Target? Or how smart and kind you are just by how big your thigh gap is?!

This is for the girls who have been working tirelessly to look like a model in the brand new swimsuits they obsessed over while online shopping.

Be beautiful.

Be kind.

Be brave.

Be smart.

Be strong.

Be curious.

Be spontaneous.

Be everything you have ever dreamed of being. But do not for one second think that you are not good enough because of what you look like on the outside.

You are capable.

You are worthy.

You are enough.

You are MORE than enough.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
