How Each Snapchat Filter Relates To Charleston, South Carolina

The yellow icon with the ghost seems to be a never-ending sensation. Snapchat has taken communication to another level with its filters, timer, text, etc. As I was sitting here sending my friends some of my favorite filters, I got to thinking, "Each of these really remind me of Charleston in different ways." I'm officially moving in Sunday, so why not write an article dedicated to them and their similarities to Chucktown? So, here we are.

1. The Dog Filter

Ah, yes, the dog filter. This seem to be a fan favorite because of the way it just -- I don't know -- it tends to make everyone just feel adorable. Speaking of adorable, I can't seem to figure out why, but Charleston just has the cutest dogs, and so many of them. Walking from one point to another on King Street that is supposed to take 10 minutes will actually take me 20 because of the amount of cute puppies I can't resist petting.

2. The Rainbow Glasses Filter

I can't exactly say that I have seen anyone walking around Charleston looking like this, but what I can say is that Charleston's people have very fun and unique styles. I love how everyone expresses themselves whether they're preppies, hippies, beach bums, etc. Each and every individual has his or her own place in Chucktown. King Street's endless shops also accommodate everyone's styles.

3. The Flower Crown Filter

If this filter doesn't make you feel like a hippie flower-child princess, then I don't know what will. It reminds me of Charleston's natural, beautiful land. Despite Charleston being a city, you don't have to look far to find a gorgeous pot of pink and yellow flowers or a sunny and green public park.

4. The Butterfly Filter

Speaking of nature, the butterfly filter makes me think of animals that bask in Charleston's beauty. Butterflies, bees, moths and so much more fly down Liberty Street feeling, well, free. There's a great combination of land and sea creatures that never fail to put a smile on a tourist or local's face.

5. The Bee Filter

The drippy honey in the bee filter screams the Charleston historic market where vendors sell jewelry, sweet water baskets and, of course, yummy, natural jars of jams and honey. Everyone seems to love their spreads down South, and you certainly can't go wrong searching for the perfect one in Charleston's Historic Market.

6. The Pineapple Filter

Who doesn't picture take a picture of the Pineapple Fountain when in Charleston? The fountain may not be as creepy as this filter, but they certainly share being eye-catching. This prickly, fun fruit is an essential symbol down south that represents hospitality in Charleston.

7. The Heart Eyes Filter

This city is full of love. I feel as though my eyes actually do turn into hearts as I walk around this amazing city. Anyone will fall in love with Charleston as soon as he or she steps foot on Folly Beach, King Street or the Battery.

8. The Sad Filter

This will be your face when you have to leave.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
