Once upon a time there was a black baby and a white baby. They played together, sang together, danced together, walked together, ate together and dwelled on a friendship. But then they grew and for some reason, one started to slowly hate each other. And the hatred grew so much that they could not be in the same place together. There was this tension between them. But hey, you have probably heard this story a thousand times. You can predict how it ends
Our words, our actions, our movement, our faith, our ideologies are all in one way or the other fallible. We as a people claim to know the objective truth when in reality, all we do know is truth that is subjective. Now as of this time, I am all over the place. You might be curiously wondering where I am going with this. Well, I just want to talk about love.
Where is the love when people claim to love but we hate with a passion? Where is the love when people spend so much on clothing when they know for certain that there are a lot of homeless people on the street? Where is the love when people don’t care about what is going on around the world even though they know that people are at war but then we go to school or work or whatever you do because it is happening so far away and we cannot see it? Where is the love when people kill each other just so they could be momentarily leaders for a fraction of a time?
Everything we learn, we can unlearn. If you hate, unlearn it and learn to love. If your religion or ideologies forces you to hate, let go of it. If your actions cause others harm, forsake it. One thing we can learn is to love. If the world was to end today because there was a meteorite on its way to crush earth, I bet we will take a moment, reflect and hold each other like never before. We will gaze into each other’s eyes as we say our goodbyes. We will stand up together and for a single moment in history, we will come together, hold hands or something as we welcome the end. So as you read this article, take a moment to reflect why you hate someone or someplace or some religion and just for a moment, think of the possibility of loving it. Because at the end of the day, we will self-destruct if we don’t have love in our heart. Jesus makes me love. What makes you love? And what is the motivation behind your love?
