How On Earth Did Our Parents Survive College Without These 7 Useful Things?

Yes, there are downsides to technology, but it's useful in many ways.

As struggling, stressed out, college students there are many aspects of new technology and advancements that aid in our experience in college.

1. Uber/Lyft

Whatever your preference is, it's a beautiful tool when you miss the apartment shuttle to campus and better yet still have to walk from the bus hub to your class, wherever that may be. Uber/Lyft are accessible apps, that you can download on your phone, that pick you up at your exact location and drop you off at your desired destination. Of course, depending on the time of day and how little Ubers/Lyfts are on the road will determine the price...but nowadays, what's better, spending that extra $7-$10 on a ride to class or losing attendance points?

2. Tapingo

All you have to do is tap buttons and you've got yourself a meal delivered to your dorm/apartment in a matter of 45-60 minutes. If you are running late to campus, and are in desperate need of that coffee, but you know the Starbucks line is going to be halfway around the student center, preorder your drinks with Tapingo and it's almost guaranteed to be ready for you to pick up upon arrival. It is a beautiful thing.

3. Venmo

If you're out to eat with your friends and you are somehow in a situation where you don't have access to your debit/credit card, your friends will more than likely be willing to respond with, "I got you, just Venmo me." It is an app that you can transfer money with no matter the distance between you and the person transferring/or person receiving the money.

You can then transfer the money into your bank account that can be posted as soon as the next day into your account, with a .25 charge, or you can choose the free of charge option to wait up to 2 days for it to be transferred into your bank account. SUPER CONVENIENT.

4."Find My Friends" on the iPhone

This comes in handy if you happen to lose your phone for whatever reason. If you and your friends have iPhones, and if you have your locations shared with each other, you are able to track their phone in order to retrieve it. It's a blessing, really.

5. "On Watch" App

One of many. For the most part, college campuses are equipped with devices in case of an emergency, for example, if you are being followed back to your dorm at night after being at the Library. I do not recommend ever walking alone, but if you have no choice, and you feel unsafe this type of app alerts 911 immediately and anyone on your emergency contact list that you provide the app.

6. Groupon

Another app. If you're a college student, you're more than likely on a budget. If you and your friends want to have a weekend getaway or just do something spontaneous, GO ON GROUPON. There are many deals to take advantage of where you can save a ton of moolah $$$$.

7. Online Banking Apps

These are useful for many things, however, one feature that I love Is that if you lose your card or if its stolen but not quite, and there's still potential in finding it, you can "freeze" your account to where no transactions can be made, but your card won't fully be unauthorized, just temporarily until you find it.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
