How To Deal With Stress

Stress catches us all in it’s storm, whether once in awhile or all the time. Either way, it sucks us in and winds us up to the point where anxiety is your constant state. That’s not what life should be like; life should be full of happiness, relaxation, and overwhelming peace. Although stress is inevitable at times- let's face it, life is rough - it’s important to learn how to deal with it in a healthy way so you can truly live, rather than just trying to make it through the day.

1. Sweat it out.

Exercise is hands down one of the best ways to destress. Dopamine, basically the happy neurotransmitter in the brain, is released when you workout, making you a more joyful and energetic person overall. Plus, it’s scientifically proven to relieve stress and is used by many because of its effectiveness.

2. Get creative.

There’s nothing better to distress than to do something that you love. Getting create not only relieves stress, but allows you to spend time doing what you’re passionate about. Whether it be playing an instrument, writing, drawing, or anything else, taking the time to do these things will calm your soul.

3. Meditate.

This is different for everyone, and can vary from praying and quiet time, to doing actual yogi meditation. Whatever it is, leaving time to self reflect and gather your thoughts will go a long way, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day. No matter how busy you may be, putting this time aside is so necessary because your mental and emotional health should always be prioritized.

4. Organization is key.

Getting organized will automatically calm you down because you won’t have to constantly stressed out about what you need to do and when you need to do it. Every morning, take the time to plan out your day and make a list of what you need to get done. And, referring back to the last point, make sure to schedule in some quiet time!

5. Take a break from social media.

As much as our generation may love social media, often times it’s the root of our stress and anxiety problems. Constantly comparing ourselves to others and being instantly connected to so many people is draining, whether we realize it or not. Even if it’s just for a day, take a break from social media! You’ll be surprised at how much more positive you’ll be, and the amount of free time you have because you aren’t scrolling on your phone all day.

Don’t let the storm of stress override your life; It’s time to take control! I wish you all the best of luck.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
