Your stomach will thank you.

Lactose intolerance is an issue faced by a number of Americans.

In fact, according to The National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, there are 50 million reported cases of lactose intolerance in the United States.

I recently stopped eating dairy products because I realized that they were killing my stomach.

If you're looking to cure your stomach pains or simply clean up your diet, here are my top five favorite dairy-free alternatives!

1. Silk Almond Milk

At only 30 calories a serving, this alternative to cow milk is sweet and filling. I love putting silk in cereal, it adds a subtle sweetness. This is probably my most consumed dairy alternative, and I'm never going back (neither should you)!

2. So Delicious Ice Cream Bar

I have a huge sweet tooth, so giving up ice cream was the hardest thing for me. Luckily, these bars are made with coconut milk and taste just like normal ice cream. I'm obsessed.

3. Ben and Jerry's Non-Dairy Desserts

While on the topic of ice cream, I should mention Ben and Jerry's daring transformation. They now offer dairy-free products for the lactose intolerant and vegans alike! So delicious, so sweet, and just like normal ice cream. Plus, it packs fewer calories than traditional ice cream. My sweet tooth thanks me.

4. Daiya Cheese, Mellow Mushroom

A pizza with vegan cheese? Count me in. This pizza is delicious and one of my favorite things at Mellow Mushroom. Just ask to substitute mozzarella for daiya, and you'll be eating dairy-free. The cheese is a little creamier than dairy cheese when melted, so be prepared for a texture difference. Other than that, feel free to indulge!

5. So Delicious Yogurt Alternative

Okay honestly, I've never been a huge fan of yogurt. But when I tried this coconut milk yogurt, I went insane. It's delicious and filling. Plus, the coconut milk adds a little bit of extra sweetness that you don't get in typical yogurts. This is an amazing option for breakfast!

So those are my top five most consumed/favorite dairy-free options. I hope you try some of them out, happy snacking!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
