How To Complete The End Of Your Sophomore Year

How To Complete The End Of Your Sophomore Year

I am sincerely sad I have to say goodbye to Iowa City for a few months this summer. My second year of college has been the best year of my life. I have become close with people I know I will stay friends with for life and I have them to thank for contributing to some of the craziest weekends yet. Late night McDonald's runs on Tuesday nights and lounging on the The Summit patio after classes will be memories I will have forever.

We have less than two weeks left in this beautiful city, and I don't want to miss out on any opportunities. I know the second I move out of my apartment next Friday, I will want to turn right around and come back, but I know I'll be visiting every other weekend. I have a plan of action for the last week, and I know my friends will be joining me.

1. Have a gathering for Cinco de Mayo.
Even though finals are next week, what better way to close out sophomore year than having a dance party at my apartment. I enjoy having people over, and now we actually have an occasion to do so.

2. Actually study for finals though.
Starting early is the key. If you start more than a week before, your hard work will actually pay off, and your parents won't question that you've been going out too much this semester. Plus the weekend before finals, you can actually have some time to relax and watch a movie or go out to a nice last supper with friends.

3. Eat at a place you haven't tried before.
I know I still have two more years at Iowa, but how am I going to finish trying every restaurant in Iowa City if I don't plan ahead. I can't do it all in one year.

4. Spend time at your sorority house.
I don't live in the house, but even to the girls who do, you won't actually come visit the house as much as you think next year. Even though my best friends live there now, I don't get there as often as I would like. You will miss spending time raiding the fridge at 12 a.m. and gathering in the TV room watching American Horror Story.

5. Go on a long run.
Find a new jogging path and explore. I did yesterday, and its cool to see areas I never knew existed in my college town. Even if you don't run, find some friends and go Rollerblading or biking.

6. Appreciate your campus.
Sit outside and people watch. College goes by way too fast to let it pass by. I'm gonna be a junior next year and it makes me upset to think I won't be able to sit by the Pentacrest on my laptop and just enjoy life.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
