In a galaxy far, far away...their was a wonderful woman.
When news broke of the death of beloved actress and writer Carrie Fisher, I, like everyone, was heartbroken. Some blamed the curse of 2016, some said maybe it was her past history with drugs and alcohol that led to her too soon death, but at the end of the day, no matter what people say happened, an idol was lost.
People may only remember her as warrior princess Leia from the Star Wars franchise, but to me she was so much more than a woman in a white dress.
She was literally a "New Hope" for many woman such as myself.
She was a fiercely funny woman, an advocate for mental health, and someone all woman around the world could look up to. She showed the world a woman could be a princess while kicking some major ass along the way.
A girl could save the world, and not have a man save her from every dangerous situation that arose.
She inspired me to be so much more than what the world may think I could be. She showed me I could be funny and witty, and occassionally have a sailors mouth. She showed that I didn't have to dumb anything down because it may not be lady like, she inspired me to be, well, me.
She was everyone's childhood, and for the world right now it feels as if our childhood has been ripped away and soiled by this news.
However, let's not just remember her for her death, but remember her for everything she stood for.
She stood for equal rights, not just for women, but for all. She stood for mental health awareness, she stood for women to be portrayed as not just tits in a shirt, but as smart creatures who could take care of themselves....strictly speaking she stood for everything we wish we could at some points in our life.
Her sharp wit, and funny analysis of the world we live in always kept me smiling, finally having an idol who didn't need to be prim and proper to command respect. She was what many woman were scared to be during the time, so thank you Carrie Fisher for just being you.
I know it sounds cliche, and a tad bit redundant, but seriously 2016....screw you.
