Our process is ridiculous and sacred.

Through all my years of schooling, one thing has remained constant: my love of English classes. So upon entering college, becoming an English major was what needed to happen. So far it's been great--fantastic, even. But there's one thing that has plagued my English career from Day One: Essays. So, for those of you who are curious, here's a basic rundown of my essay-writing process. And for my fellow English people, feel free to nod along knowingly as you read this.

2 Weeks Until Essay Is Due

-Ok, so my final essay is due in exactly two weeks--that gives me plenty of time to work on it.

-You know what? I'm going to make this my best essay yet.

-I'm going to come up with an analysis that I'm actually proud of.

*Brainstorms for approximately 10 minutes and then puts notebook away, satisfied*

A Few Days Pass

-Ok...it's been a while since I've worked on this.

-You know what? It's totally fine--I've still got time.

-I'll even go through and do a bit more outlining!

*Briefly flips through the notebook I brainstormed in*

*Puts it away without writing anything new*

-Yep, I'm pretty much the best student.

-So, so studious.

A Few More Days Pass

-Wow, I'm so glad I'm on top of all my studying.

*Remembers that I have an essay due and panics about the due date*

*Frantically looks through the syllabus to see when exactly the paper is due*

-Oh, good--it's not due for another 4 days.

-I'm so great at time management.

*Watches Netflix to congratulate myself on my scholarly pursuits*

The Day Before The Essay Is Due

-Oh, no.

-I'm made a terrible mistake.

-Why did I do this to myself?

-What do all these random things I wrote down even mean?

-Ok, so what can I even argue about in this essay?

-What if I don't care about any arguments I could make in this essay?

-You know what--it's fine. I'll just make something up.

*Writes furiously*

-Wow. That's definitely a stretch.

-But it's all I have, so we're going with it.

2 Hours Until The Essay Is Due

-Holy crap. I don't even know if this is in English.

-Also, I can't remember what exactly my thesis is about anymore.

-And I don't know if the last paragraph I wrote fits in with it at all.

-Am I even proving my point--whatever that point was? (Because I can't remember.)

-Why do I do this every time?

*Bangs head repeatedly on table*

20 Minutes Until The Essay Is Due

-I can't feel my brain anymore.

-I hate this.

-I hate my work ethic.

*Computer decides to spontaneously restart and I start pulling out my hair*

4 Minutes Until The Essay Is Due

-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

*Types so fast my fingers are blurry*

11:59--Essay Is Now Due

-Oh. My. God.

*Sits back, exhausted*

-I am both in awe of and severely disappointed in myself.

-I honestly don't know what I just wrote.

-Nope. No idea.

-That's it. Never again.

-I will NEVER wait until the last minute again.

*LIES*

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
