The wave of the future is here! With all of the Artifical Intelligence systems that people use on a daily basis, such as Google Assistant or Apple's Siri, we are starting to live in a Jetson's time. However, Amazon is believed to have taken over the whole "Smart Home" industry by putting their AI, Alexa, into multiple products. In fact, Amazon has made an Alexa solution for almost every room in the house.
Let's start out with the original device, the Amazon Echo. This device was the original Alexa enabled device. It has 8 microphones on the top of the device with impressive speakers for audio playback. The Echo has a larger footprint and is always plugged into a power outlet. This Alexa device can easily find a home in an office, living room, bedroom, kitchen, etc. Without a doubt this device is pretty universal when planning a Smart Home.doubt this device is pretty universal when planning a Smart Home.
Next, we go to the Amazon Tap. The Tap is a portable version of the Echo. The name came about because when first introduced, you had to press a button at the top of the device in order for it to begin listening. This has changed with a software update, and now all you have to do is say "Alexa" to get it's attention. It also comes with a charging station, but can be used on it's onboard battery. This device works great in any setting, since you have the hands-free option and it's slightly more rugged design. This option can be used in an outdoor setting, a garage, or a bedroom.
Now we go to the Echo Dot. The Echo Dot is a smaller version of the Echo for a fraction of the price. The speaker on this device isn't as powerful as the Echo or the Tap, but you are still able to use many different skills that are available on the Alexa platform. This device is great for any room. Since you can plug the device into a speaker system, I'd suggest this one in a living room or a bedroom with a soundbar. This would allow you to use the Dot as a bluetooth adapter for a nice sound system. This device is also great for creating an integrated system, such as hiding it in a wall mount or a shelving unit.bluetooth adapter for a nice sound system. The Echo Look is up next. The Echo Look is essentially an Amazon Echo, but with a selfie camera. It's advertised to give you fashion advice, take outfit photos, and can be used as an intercom. This device would work great in a bedroom or a closet.
The next Alexa device we will cover is the Echo Show. The Show is one of the newest Alexa devices out on the market. It boasts a 7-inch touch screen, two speakers, a camera, and a profile that can sit on a table. This device can do everything the Echo can normally do, but it also adds features such as video calling and video door-bell integration. This device is great for a kitchen, living room, or bedroom.
Finally, the Dash Wand. The Dash Wand is the newest Alexa device released. It has a small scanner on the top of the device to allow a user to add items to an Amazon cart, and order the items. The Dash Wand can also access most of the skills from the Amazon Skill Store. Unfortunately, it currently doesn't support timers or alarms, which would be great for this device. I'd say it's the perfect device to use in the kitchen. You can ask the Dash Wand measurement questions and recipe questions, while also having the ability to ask to turn your lights on.
Amazon has definitely created enough devices to create a great Smart Home. With this gigantic library of different devices, there's one (or more) perfect options for you to integrate Alexa into each room of your home! I've personally own the Echo and the Dash Wand, and have used the Echo Dot. All of these devices are great for what they can do, and since they are always updating, new features are always added. I'd love to eventually try the Echo Show, since that looks like a great tablet-esqe table device.own the Echo and the Dash Wand, and have used the Echo Dot.
