How 'Alice In Wonderland' Relates To Our Lives

Sadly, there aren't any smoking caterpillars in reality.

Reality is a great thing isn't it? (*sarcasm*) Life is lesson, take it or leave it. There are great values we learn from it, which make us into the people we are today. So here are a few things I've learned from the childhood classic, "Alice in Wonderland."

1. It's okay to fail. Everyone has failed at one time or another. Failure is a life's greatest teacher.

2. Immersing yourself in nature is possibly the most calming thing you can do for the wellness of your entire being. The "real" world is right outside your door once you've disconnected from your demanding technology.

3. We all complain about reality because we hold so many expectations for what it really should be. There's that phase of, "I'm Alice in Wonderland," and feeling like your reality is too bland. Never said that to yourself? You didn't go through teenage years right then. There's this intangible fantasy that we dream about and say how sick of reality we are. Well, guess what? That's what we are living in. Make the most of it. Yes, dreams are great and fantastic, but occasionally we need to get out of our heads, as lame as it is. Reality is somewhat uncomfortable. However, we must face it, in order to live a life in success and meaning.

4. There is no use looking back on the past, no matter how tempting it seems to be. Easier said than done, of course. We get hurt, we get back up. Moving forward is the only way to go in order to truly live for today. I feel as though I am beginning to sound cliché...oh well. It is what it is. Everything is somehow supposed to happen the way it pans out. Don't sweat it.

5. Find your creativity and use it. The best people are completely "bonkers." Normal people are boring. Don't be normal because, hey, "we are all mad here."

6. Believe in what seems impossible. Set those goals. Achieve those goals. You got it.

7. Knowledge is power. Use it well, my friend.

8. Communicate with others. Say what you feel rather than suppressing your feelings. Outcomes may be in your favor. You miss the shots you don't take, or whatever that one inspiring, popular sports quote is.

9. Take advice from those older. They lived it, they know. Oh, and our parents know what they are talking about, even if it's absolutely ludicrous.

Just remember that wonderland is a parallel universe in relation to reality.

Lose yourself to find yourself.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
