The Guide To Houseplants And Why You Should Invest In Them

Why are plants important? They absorb CO2 and release O2. They clean the air for us so we can breathe! How cool is that?! Plants are what allow us to live and should be treated with the utmost respect and love.

I think buying plants is one of the best decisions I've made. I recently changed up my room to have a green, natural feel to it. What other way to do that than add some beautiful plants to the mix! I was unsure what to invest in as my room generally sits at 70 degrees give or take with a low amount of light entering my large window. However, I was set on getting plants to make my room homey and beautiful. The quest was on for low light plants that do well in the variably humid weather of Wisconsin.

Whether you're on the quest for a room remodeling and would like to brighten the space up with some plants or simply would just love to get some gorgeous plants, I recommend figuring out the amount of light in your location as well as the usual temperature. Once you know these factors, you can look into what plant fits your living situation the best.

I encourage you to buy from your local greenhouse or plant nursery as they are generally small businesses who love what they do! If you find yourself in Milwaukee, I would recommend going to Kellner's Greenhouse. They have such an expansive and beautiful collection of ALL kinds of plants. They recently got in a new shipment of plants and are preparing to open up the other parts of the greenhouse. It is quite a large greenhouse. It feels like you're in a wonderland of plants. If you're a plant lover like me you will definitely find that Kellner's Greenhouse is the place to be. Go and check them out. We love supporting small businesses!

What plants are best suited for your home if you have low light?

If you have low light entering your home or the location you would like to place the plant, then I would recommend the flowing houseplants:

1. English Ivy

Ivy does well in moderate to low light. You should let it dry thoroughly between watering to ensure the happiness of your new green friend. I recommend English Ivy.

2. ZZ Plant

ZZ plants do very well in a dry, low light home. These bad boys can really handle low light. Plus, their foliage is beautiful!

3. Snake Plant

These guys can do very well in low light and can deal with dry environments no problem!

4. Pothos

These plants are my absolute favorite. They come in various forms – marble queen, neon, golden, etc. They do well in low light and prefer to dry out in between watering. I have one of these guys and he is putting out so many new leaves. Be careful not to over water as a white fungus film can grow on the top of the soil. However, this fungus is harmless. Proper watering and making sure the plant has enough space to grow is conducive to maintaining a happy pothos!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
