The 2016 election is not over yet. In reality, sure, but the long-awaited outcome of the 2016 election in the universe of “House of Cards” was put on hold at the end of season four. That’s right, the nail biting show that is “House of Cards” is returning with its fifth season on May 30 to pick up where it left off.
Entertainment Weekly shared the first peak of photo stills from the series’ newest season. The photos don't say much about the plot, but show characters who will be returning and be instrumental in season five's political drama.
The new season was written before the results of the actual 2016 presidential election in the United States were known. But it may still be parallel to the current U.S administration. I am speculating that there would be parallels to reality if either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump won the election as politicians are all the same to a certain extent, but that is neither here nor there.
The last that we saw of the Underwoods, they were planning to declare war on a terrorist group in order to distract the public from a damaging article that has the potential to ruin their chances of gathering votes.
"House of Cards" is one of the best, if not the best, pieces of media that sheds light on the plethora of dark secrets that one of the most powerful governments in the world keeps. Former President Bill Clinton is famously quoted in regards to politicians reacting to the show by saying, “Kevin, 99 percent of what you do on that show is real. The one percent you get wrong is you could never get an education bill passed that fast.”
I’m curious as to how the new season of “House of Cards” takes on modern issues and especially how President Frank Underwood deals with issues that are parallel to those that the real American government is dealing with today in 2017.
