A Hot Dog Is Not A Sandwich, Deal With It

A hot dog might be the cousin of a sandwich, but it will never be a sandwich.

A couple of months ago, I was at a hotel bar with my friend, Brittany. The employees had a question for us - Is a hot dog a sandwich? I do not think it is. Sadly, one of them does think it is a sandwich. So, I'm here to say it is not a sandwich and give my facts.

First of all, let's start with what a sandwich is.

A sandwich is an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or another filling between them, eaten as a light meal, (as defined by Dictionary.com). Yes, I already know what you're going to say. Hold on for a second. A hot dog bun is one piece of bread split in half, but not all the through. Therefore, we have the start of why a hot dog is not a sandwich.

We should also look at the name of the food. It isn't called a hot dog sandwich. No, it's simply a hot dog. You don't go to a concession stand and ask for a hot dog sandwich. You ask for a hot dog. They would look at you like you're crazy if you said "hot dog sandwich." It doesn't make sense.

There may be some parts of the definition that check out, but for it to be true it all needs to check out. A hot dog is a hot dog. In fact, let's take a look at what the definition of a hot dog is - a frankfurter, especially one served hot in a long, soft roll and topped with various condiments. The sandwich and hot dog definition are two completely different things. I've said it before and I'll say it again - a hot dog is not a sandwich.

For the people out there who want to argue me on this, AKA Dylan from the Hyatt - I see where you're coming from, but you're wrong and you need to know that. I understand the concept of meat in between two pieces of bread, but there aren't two pieces of bread! It is a bun split in half. Check your facts.

A hot dog might be the cousin of a sandwich, but it will never be a sandwich. Sorry, not sorry. I wish I had time to take this to the streets, but I simply don't. Just know that most people know a hot dog is not a sandwich even drunk people.

I hope you now know the truth about the hot dog. I hope you're not too crushed about these facts. And I hope you can forgive me if I hurt you with these facts.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
