Why I Want To Work In A Hospital

You are walking down the street and all of a sudden you hear the sound of a siren coming from an ambulance. When an ambulance passes by me all I can think of is if that person in there will be ok and what happened to that person. Anything can happen to the human body and it can be so complicated to understand how these bad things can happen to us. When I see ambulances go down the street I also think of who will be taking them in to help them when they arrive at a nearby hospital. Doctors, nurses and surgeons will be ready for what is to come and it can be very stressful to take in what has happened.

Growing up, I was obsessed with learning about the human body. Science was always my favorite subject growing up and I took lots of science courses in high school and became more and more fascinated with anatomy. I even got excited when I saw a human body coloring book in Barnes and Noble…I never bought it because I feel it would have made me look like more of a nerd. My favorite TV show is Greys Anatomy, not just for the drama and romance but mostly for the medical elements that appear in every episode.

I find the body fascinating because every organ has a specific job just like humans and how we all have specific jobs in the world. Our bodies are like machines, if one thing goes wrong with a machine, the entire thing itself will go out of sync or just stop working. As humans it is our job to keep ourselves healthy so our organs can work properly. If something does go wrong however, this is where these doctors, nurses and surgeons come into play.

When I entered college I realized how much I also love to help people and make them happy and around the time of college I realized working in a hospital would be a good choice for me. Here are two reasons why I want to work in a hospital setting after college.

I Want To Help Others And Make Them Feel Happy

To me, helping people is very important. One thing that I found out about myself at a young age is that I love to talk to people and help them. I would say that I am that friend who everyone goes to for any advice. When people come to me for help I find pleasure in sitting down and helping them out with a problem. I also feel that I am a good listener which helps me even more. It makes me feel good that I helped someone out and gave them good advice about a specific problem that they are having. Working in a hospital will give me the chance to help patients succeed with their healing process and it will make me feel good that I helped them in every way that I could.

Following In My Parents Footsteps

Everybody in the world is biologically related and so that means you seem to have similar personalities or interests. Both of my parents decided to follow the medical track and I think that growing up with them and being their daughter is one of the reasons as to why I want to work in a hospital. My mom in particular, works as a registered nurse in a hospital overnight. When I see my mom go to work for her night shift I always wonder what kinds of things she has to deal with when she is there. After asking her and hearing about what she does during her shifts it makes me realize that I want to do something similar. My father works as a physical therapist and also works all day helping people feel better. I look at my parents as great role models because both of them work hard everyday to help people and get them back on their feet again. I want to do the same later in the future so, working in a hospital will give me that chance to be just like my parents and help people get their normal lives back. “The greatest success we’ll know is helping others succeed and grow.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
