Summer isn't always filled with sunshine and waves. There are countless nights spent listening to the rain fall and the thunder rumble. Nothing is better than cuddling up and watching a scary movie on these kinds of nights. Luckily, there are quite a few exciting new horror movies coming out this summer.

1. "The Conjuring 2"

Release Date: June 10, 2016

IMBd Rating: 9.2/10

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 82 percent

The sequel of the infamous "Conjuring" (2013) has fans anxiously awaiting this film's release. Ed and Lorraine Warren take on a case in northern London to help an 11-year-old girl release the demons from within her. The little girl lives with her single mother and three other siblings in their spirit-infested home.

2. "The Shallows"

Release Date: June 29, 2016

This thriller stars Blake Lively as a surfer that gets attacked by a great white shark. Stranded on a small island, she must decide whether or not to risk her life by swimming 200 yards to shore. The only thing stopping her is the 2,000 lb. killer lurking in the water. The film has not yet been rated by IMBd or Rotten Tomatoes, but fans can't wait to see it.

3. "The Purge: Election Year

Release Date: July 1, 2016

Two years after choosing not to kill the man that killed his son, police sergeant Barnes is appointed Head of Security for the front runner in the upcoming Presidential election. His duty to protect her and survive this year's purge is compromised when they are forced into the streets of D.C. during the 12 hours of lawlessness. The two must attempt to stay alive until dawn, or fight to defend themselves. This film has not yet been rated by critics, but based on the response to it's prequel, fans are anxiously awaiting this release.

4. "Lights Out"

Release Date: July 22, 2016

From the makers of "The Conjuring", comes a thriller that proves you were right to be scared of the dark. Rebecca has been seeing things that others cannot since she was a child. Now her little brother Martin (of "Annabelle") is beginning to see these things as well. After they realize the mysterious spirit they've been witnessing has an attachment to their mother, their lives are put in danger. This film has also not been rated yet by critics.

5. "Don't Breathe"

Release Date: August 26, 2016

IMBd Rating: 8.2/10

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 78 percent

A group of teenagers plan what they think is the perfect crime: robbing the house of a wealthy blind man. The teens get trapped inside the home and desperately try to escape. The homeowner may not be able to see, but he'll fight to the death.


So grab some popcorn and a blanket, and get ready for these five scary movies coming this summer. These films are sure to make up for the rainy nights that summer notoriously gives us.
