Horrible Bosses? We’ve All Had Them

Have you ever had to coexist with a manager who was just plain rude? Who was the best example of “nice-nasty”? How did you deal with it?

Having a job where you are forced to deal with an unruly manager can not only be tiresome but it could also be frustrating. There's always something you're doing wrong, they never say “good job!”, and they never recognize your good work. Tension starts to build and you just don't look forward to going to work at all.

Unfortunately, in the real world, there are great bosses and then there are horrible bosses. So how do you deal with the not so great ones?

Your place of employment serves as a way for you to practice your professionalism. Keeping calm is the key! Sometimes things just won't work out in your favor and that's ok. Always remember to keep your composure, you never know who is watching.

Often times with managers who have a classic case of power trip, they will purposely push your buttons. Their motives may or may not be clear but nevertheless, always remain professional. If you work at a job where customer engagement is your number one priority, smile and greet everyone; employees included.

Whenever possible, communicate in writing to avoid "I didn't tell you that", for accountability. Always make a point to arrive to work on time. Once you’re on the clock, immediately get started. This works well especially if you have a manager that hovers over your shoulder every chance they get. Try to be clear on the supervisor's concerns and remember the rules. Managers who nag about every little thing can also be annoying so avoid being called in about the same thing. If it's against the rules, just don't do it.

Communicate to avoid misunderstandings. Yes, even if you don't like them. Exemplify your great work ethics and attitude to those around you. They can't help but to notice which will make you look like employee of the month!

Continue to be who you are, your attitude just might change their behavior. Always remember to keep calm and carry on!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
