Hopes For My Second Year Of College

How I will make sophomore year truly shine above my freshman year.

Hopes For My Second Year Of College

My sophomore year is coming up so quickly, and I couldn't help but feel so many emotions going in. Just two and a half more years and I'll be done with college! While this whirlwind period in my life whizzes by, I tried to stop and think about how exactly I want this time to go, and see what direction it takes me. Who knows what life will throw at me!

1. More activities to be involved with

Though there are always things to do on a college campus, sometimes it can be hard to find them. Unlike high school, where activities and clubs are thrown at you like a baseball, in college, you need to venture out yourself in attempts to look for something to do. I had trouble finding activities when I was a freshman, but now that I have a major and know the campus better, I'll feel more inclined to go out and search. I'm always trying to make my school life just as fun as my out of school life. Plus, my school has an app that can tell you directly if something is happening on campus and where it is. Just what I needed!

2. Update my style and beauty regimen

As I grow older, I hope the way I dress and present myself can become more fashionable and sophisticated. Growing financially, I dream of having a larger wardrobe filled with tons of clothes I can mix and match. And as I leave my teen years, perhaps I can leave behind some of the looks that do not fit me anymore. The same goes for beauty. Always being too impatient to perfect my makeup looks, perhaps I will try harder to come up with new routines and look like the new and improved me. The first step is just to try.

3. Find new people to befriend

You see someone different every day when you're on a college campus, some who you will likely never see again. As I meet new people during this upcoming semester, I hope that I can form bonds with more and more individuals, and create experiences that will continue to help me along the way. It's always easy to meet new people, the trick is to befriend them. I hope that I can create friendships in all shapes and sizes, and keep them lasting for a long time.

4. Organize my time better

As much as I love to sleep in and relax, I am looking for ways to change my work ethic and get more done and minimal time. Getting out of bed is always an issue for me, and perhaps I will try to wake up early to get to school quicker. And though I love to relax and play between classes, I will try my best to get work done during that period instead. Improving my work ethic will only improve how much I enjoy my down time. It will be more worth it!

5. Become the best me I can be.

Each and every day, I learn something new about myself. Some are good, and some are bad. Some things will help me along the way, and some will not. But in the end, every day I step out into the world, I look to improve myself and create the most perfect, most genuine me I can. And as the years go by, this will continue, each step getting me closer to the ideal self I know is there somewhere. And college is just the starting point.

School will be over before I know it. But as graduation inches up on me, I will do everything I can to make these years last. All it takes is a little belief.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
